our fave place was the pool, at our hotel [Hampton on Oglethorpe & MLK] in spite of the army of girl scouts staying there, & filling this pool with squeals… waiting them out til their bedtime was worth it! and by the last night, we actually got to the plate of cookies before they did!!!
the rest of the hotel was just as beautiful. and what sort of self respecting bloggy pal would i be if i didn’t show you some pictures?! [be forewarned.. LOTS of them!]

we spent the next day, touring the beautiful city of Savannah. from the Capitol Building to River Street… it’s all a sight for the eyes!
Forsythe Park: so bummed that the fountain wasn’t working :(
the towering live oaks are simply stunning!

notice the old rails running through the river rock
these were the steepest stairs we have ever walked down!!
WW2 Memorial
though we took lots of pics.. reality is, they pale in comparison to the lovely photos that are in the book we purchased from the visitor’s center. so that’s my one good tip for those planning to visit Savannah…. get the book!! there’s no way to remember every single historic detail, after a day full of sun & walking.. and did i mention the HEAT?! it was 102 but heat index made it 112!! though i continually drank water the entire day, i still managed to dehydrate! :P however, after a dip in the above pool, and what seemed like 3 gallons of water later.. we headed out to a delicious mexican dinner, where i enjoyed the best margarita!

but let’s not dare forget to mention where we had lunch! can you say.. it was a treat, y’all! yep, we managed to get a seat at the oh-so-popular Lady & Sons.. the very restaurant of Ms. Paula Deen.

we were sat in the ‘bar’ area, which is the top floor. our table.. in the above photo, top right window! and the photo below, is the view from our table.
and this is the view of our scrumptious plates of food!!! we had the buffet.. so that we could try as many different menu items as possible! well, wouldn’t you?! ;) [baked chicken, southern fried chicken, bbq pulled pork {to die for!} mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn pudding, black eyed peas, collards, green beans, & don’t forget the mac & cheese!]
then, there was the fried corn cake & garlic & cheese biscuit! oh yeah.. as yummy as they look!! i skipped the biscuit, but managed to force that entire corn cake down my pie hole!! oh boy was i FULL!! so much so, that we had to take the dessert with us. and as you can guess.. it didn’t make it back to the hotel, due to the extreme heat. super bummed! we missed out on our gooey butter cake & peach cobbler!
but we were some FULL & HAPPY campers.. can’t ya tell! ;)
the next day, we spent the entire morning at Tybee.. lounging on the BEACH!!!
best $18 we ever spent, was the beach shelter we picked up at wally world, on the way out to the island.
well, we did do a bit of boogie boarding.. first time for me! [since my back has healed, we were stunned at the amount of activity i was able to do! it was AMAZING!!] i did manage to lose my top on my first good wave… total embarrassment for me, but a definite eye full for the teenaged boy who happened to be standing right where i landed! :O but must say.. it was a blast! AND we managed to escape any jelly fish! they were beginning to show up, just as we were about to pack up. that teenage boy that saw my accidental flash, actually pulled one out in his net as we were about to take our last dip! umm yeah, we decided to take a walk on pier instead! lol these pics were taken off the pier. they were everywhere!
after the day at the beach, our last night, we had dinner on river street, and then dessert at Leopold’s. cute little old soda fountain with really great ice cream! i had butter pecan, that must have been at least 1/2 pecans.. it was AWESOME! the hubs had his normal, strawberry. :)
our mini vacay to Savannah & Tybee was an incredible getaway! the hubs hasn’t looked so relaxed in nearly a year. so, absolutely no regrets for strapping the budget & stealing away those few days!! [i don’t even mind showing my sunburned, no makeup, hair UNdid, final vacay photo!]
oh, and what would a trip to Savannah be, without the Forrest Gump photo with my Tom Hanks look-alike hubby?! [that’s what his former students used to call him!] Chippewa Square, where the infamous scene of Forrest Gump on the bench, waiting on the bus, with his ‘box of chocolates’. the bench is no longer in the square, as they’ve moved it to the museum. boo. so we just used another bench for this pic!
if you haven’t been to Savannah, Georgia.. make sure you put it on your bucket list!
You look so happy and relaxed, so happy for you!
